The Voice of Females in Computer Science

 Though women now represent 47% of the workforce, as compared to 38% in the 1970's, only 12% of engineers are female.  A recent study by Deloitte found that women’s choices account for up to 85% of buying decisions nationwide.  So then why are men creating consumer and online shopping websites and writing code for adds when we females clearly know what we want?  I don't think females take credit for how influential they truly are.  Just think how a room of female engineers and computer scientists could create something amazing something that could change the world of buying decisions.  Computer Science is just one way we can share our ideas and have a voice. I challenge you to speak up and even if computer science does not sound appealing at all, just try it for an hour you never know what could happen!

Females can change the world!

Let me clear this up, Computer Science is not just video games.  I say that because I thought that was all it was.  I think females have the misconception that computer science is making video games or computer games which extremely untrue.  There are so many endless amazing opportunities for females.  Designing websites, blogging, instagram, twitter, our whole world is computer science.  If we can get more females to join computer science we can change the world.

What is AP Computer Science Principles?

Ap computer science principles is a new course offered by the college board that overall introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and explores how computing and technology can impact the world.  I have already taken AP Computer Science which is class of code and overall learning how to write and interpret java.  Ap Computer Science is very different and so far I have found it doesn't have a main focus on coding but instead you learn about the overall foundation of the internet and how computers interact and communicate.  Ap comp sci principles takes your knowledge on computers and the internet to a whole new level that makes you take a step back and explore something new.

Is Computer Programming Hard To Learn?

Is it hard to learn? To be completely honest it is not easy but it is in no way impossible.  I could lie and say that everyone who does it loves it but it's just not everyones cup of tea.  I have found that for some people it clicks and others it is the hardest thing in the world.  I think it is up to the person to decide which one they are.  Even if you do not get it in the beginning if you truly practice there are endless opportunities for success.  Comp sci is like a hidden gem you don't know how beautiful it is until you uncover it and sadly many people are unable to discover it.

For those who don't know where to start with coding here is a great resource. One of my very good friends started simply by working on this website for an hour a day and now designs websites for local business companies in his area and he is only 16!   Codecademy is free and already has 25 million learners around the world! This isn't the only website out there, just from a little research you can discover tons of others that may suit you better.
